Non-Profit Projects
Original short documentaries on behalf of ABC News to highlight the extraordinary work of the International Women’s Media Foundation; the Committee to Protect Journalists; and PEN America.
In 2019, PEN America honored three female Saudi writers who, in the face of intimidation and brutality, challenged the Saudi government with demands for a women’s right to drive and govern their own lives. The result was imprisonment. The challenge for this piece was to convey these women’s powerful voices while having no access and little to no visual elements for two of them. This video launched PEN’s global advocacy campaign to free them.
The Courage in Journalism Awards, bestowed by the International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) honors female journalists who set themselves apart with their extraordinary bravery. This piece on Ukranian journalists Nastya Stanko and Anna Babinets, narrated by ABC News correspondent Deborah Roberts focuses on their unflinching front line reporting on abuses by the Ukrainian government.
Anna Nimiriano, the only female editor-in-chief in South Sudan manages the country's leading daily independent newspaper, the Juba Monitor. This short profile for IWMF, narrated by Nightline co-anchor Juju Chang pays tribute to Nimiriano's unwavering fight for a free press while facing intense pressure from the South Sudanese government to censor her work.
Each year dozens of Journalists around the world are forced to flee their homes because their work has threatened those in power. Narrated by ABC World News Tonight Anchor David Muir and screened at the Committee to Protect Journalists International Press Freedom Awards gala, this impactful piece, along with four additional features I produced, directed and wrote contributed to more than two million dollars raised in one evening.
This feature on Russian journalist Mikhail Zygar was produced for the Committee to Protect Journalists. Zygar ran the only independent TV channel in Russia and described it as "walking through a minefield." This piece along with three other profiles, were edited to reflect the journalist’s personal story and work.
